It’s official! We have read every single book published by Samantha Downing. Not that we would claim to be experts on her books, but here are our thoughts! You’ll find individual book reviews with the link at the end of this article. As always, the reviews include content ratings for language, violence, and spice.

WHAT GENRE ARE HER BOOKS?

Psychological Thrillers (my favorite–Middle Sister here)

Downing has written one novella–Sleeping Dogs Lie–so if you want to dip your toes into her writing style before fully committing, we highly recommend you start here!

All of her books are stand alones. Which is fantastic news because that means you can start with whatever book you want! We highly recommend them all! I personally started with For Your Own Good, and by the time I had it finished, I had ordered every single book she had published. So be prepared to need to read them all, because they're just that good!

WHEN WE SEE SHE'S PUBLISHED A NEW BOOK?

High probability that it will be preordered! Higher probability that Middle Sister won’t stop talking about it even after she has procured it and read it!

HOW CLEAN ARE HER BOOKS?

On average her Content Ratings are:

Language-3

She does use a fair amount of profanity including the use of the F word. Not all of her books use the F word so be sure to check each book’s rating before reading.

Violence-4

Most of her books involve murder of some kind, some are more graphic than others. So once again, we would recommend checking out each book's rating.

Spice-2

She keeps everything closed door. The idea of sex is mentioned, and other topics in that realm like sex work or stripping are mentioned. There isn’t anything graphic in any of her books to date. 

WHO WOULD WE RECOMMEND HER BOOKS TO?

We recommend Samantha Downing books to older teenagers and adults who love a good psychological thriller. If you're a parent looking for a book for your teen, check out each book's Content Rating and decide if you are comfortable with your teen reading that specific content.

WHAT DO WE LOVE ABOUT HER BOOKS?

Everything! We know when going into a Samantha Downing book, there’s always more going on than what meets the eye. One of the best parts of her books is how every small detail comes together in the end. Nothing that is mentioned in her books is insignificant. And even knowing that, we can still go into reading a new book of hers and not be able to figure out the ending before it’s all spelled out for us! To us, that is fantastic thriller writing.

MY LOVELY WIFE

Everyone has their secrets. This couple’s secret is nothing anyone would expect.

I love this book! It’s amazing! This is the second book of Samantha Downing’s that I’ve read and I love how she can write a story in such a way that you find yourself rooting for the villain. There were multiple plot twists that had me gasping! I love it when a book makes me gasp.

HE STARTED IT

Beth, Portia, and Eddie have to recreate a road trip their family took many years ago in order to get their inheritance. Each of them have secrets and will stop at nothing to get what is theirs.

What on earth did I just read?!? That was insane! From the first page of the book, to the very last, I was left guessing what would happen. The whole thing was one big puzzle that I could not figure out. And I loved it.

FOR YOUR OWN GOOD

Teddy Crutcher loves teaching, but he hates entitled kids who think they deserve it all just because their parents are rich. Teddy makes it his life mission to knock those kids down a peg and teach them to be better adults than their entitled parents.

If I had to describe this book with one word it would be… brilliant! I am in love with this book! From the very beginning to the very end, every detail was accounted for and the story came full circle. I had many *gasps* throughout this book, and I loved each and every one of them!

SLEEPING DOGS LIE

Shelby is a dog walker. Imagine her surprise when she takes one of the dogs home and finds the owner dead.

I really love how Samantha Downing always pulls everything together in the end. It makes you look into each little “clue” as you are reading. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes novellas and is interested in a short little thriller!

A TWISTED LOVE STORY

Wes and Ivy have a complicated past. They can’t seem to resist each other despite the fact that they do not bring out each other’s best qualities. They’ve continually broken up and reconnected over the years. They never expected their latest connection to dredge up something so horrible from their past.

This book was so good! The suspense and mystery kept me guessing until the very last page. Once again, Downing has weaved together an incredibly crazy story with all the tiny little pieces coming together so well in the end.

TOO OLD FOR THIS

Lottie just wants to enjoy her senior years. When people start coming around asking questions about her past, she has no choice but to come out of retirement to keep her secrets. Unfortunately, being a serial killer is much harder when you’re 75 years old.

I don’t know where Samantha Downing comes up with these stories, but I love it! Keep them coming! Who would have thought a geriatric serial killer could be so entertaining?
