UNDERCOVER HONEYMOON
KARI IROZ

3 Stars
Jack (Jacklyn) and Damon finally get married, but when they go on their week-long honeymoon cruise, things start to go wrong.
I didn’t love the beginning of this book. We got that annoying chapter again (all three books I’ve read from this author had one)—this time it was about a missing wedding dress. And it was the actual first chapter of the book. It was hard to get through it. I also felt like there was a huge disconnect between Jack and Damon’s characters in this book from the other two. The Jack from the other books lived to eat food, but this Jack had been on a pretty strict diet for 6 months…and only lost 5 pounds. Something’s not really adding up there. And the Damon from the other books was talking about taking Jack on their honeymoon to Paris. This Damon was obsessed with the cruise (for obvious nefarious reasons), but Jack said Damon would have loved to go see some museum in Washington DC with an exhibit about the first director of the FBI… huh? Where did that come from?
Anyways, for the rest of the first half of the book, it’s not that I didn’t enjoy it, but I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop. I knew that Jack and Damon were going to start fighting on the cruise, and I was probably going to be mad at Damon… and I just didn’t want that to happen. Then 50 to 70% through, things really started to pick up. I was still mad about the situation, but the mystery…amazing, one plot twist after another. I was very surprised, in a good way, about where things led and how they ended up. Now I’m disappointed there isn’t another book for me to read about Jack and Damon.
I do have to say that the end was very fast and abrupt. I wish we got a little bit more closure for Jack and Damon’s relationship, but it very well may have been intentional—leaving it open for another book. It also really makes me mad that some inconsequential moments in the book get chapters (the stupid missing wedding dress), but when Jack and Damon actually start having a meaningful conversation, it always gets interrupted. There’s lots of them fighting, and then just dealing with things in the hype of the investigation, but no real healing/forgiving moments. Stupid. But I can’t not recommend this book along with all of the others about Jack and Damon.
*While this book is technically not part of a series, I would highly recommend reading the other books about Jack and Damon first—A Date with Danger and Mormon Girl: Incognito.
