After her fifteen minutes of fame, Jimi’s life starts to settle into a new normal. She’s getting her relationship with her mom back on track, she’s preparing to start a new semester of school, and she’s spending time with Rex, her kinda sorta Chimera boyfriend. But when Doc Guzman gets arrested for a murder he didn’t commit, Jimi has to figure out a way to fix it.

It took me a little bit longer to get into Splintered than it did for me to get into Spliced (the first book). It started out pretty slow. There were some nice moments between Jimi and Rex where they got to spend some time together outside of a life-or-death situation (like the first book), but there was also a lot of buildup and preparation for the adventure at the end of the book that wasn’t as interesting to me as the buildup in Spliced was. Spliced started out with Jimi’s normal life of going to school and hanging out with Del, but in Splintered, Jimi was trying to find her new normal and some of the situations seemed slightly repetitive and a little bit too weird. That being said, I really enjoyed the second half (maybe two thirds) of the book. I didn’t know if the crazy, yet fitting, ending of Spliced could be topped, but it was. And I also really liked how Claudia was brought back into the storyline.
