Paul and his family leave their home planet to take over rule on the planet Arrakis. On this new planet, water is scarce and “spice” rules all.

I had multiple people in my life recommend Dune as an amazing book. Well, turns out they are all liars! I hated this book with a passion! To me Dune is one long flat storyline where any moment of action is quickly settled and followed up by another 30-100 pages of nothingness. I enjoy a detailed book where everything comes together in the end. For example: The Toll By: Neal Shumaster. But, you see, here in this book, all the detail was fluff that really didn't matter in the grand scheme of things. So, in my opinion it should have been left out of the book.

Let me save you all some time and tell you what happens over the course of the 617 pages. They go to a new planet, the duke dies, Paul and his mom escape and join the sand people (fremen), there is a two year time jump, Paul rides a worm, declares war, and now they are back in charge… probably… it wasn’t very clear there at the end.

Don’t even get me started on the fact that this book has a glossary, or as the book calls it a “terminology of the imperium.” The last thing I wanna do while reading a book is stop every five minutes to look up a word to see what it means when a word that already exists in the real world would do. I have been informed by my brother that having their own words is something that exists in these fantasy worlds, and apparently people enjoy that. But guess what? I don’t care, and I am not here for it. Who really enjoys having to look up the word Hiereg to learn that it means a camp! Just write, we set up camp!!

Alright, I think my rant is over. Moral of the story, I do not recommend. I have officially decided I will no longer be taking book recommendations from those who recommended this book to me. Thank you and goodnight!
