Kaz Brekker’s crew has survived the impossible when they return to Ketterdam with the prisoner they were hired to bring back from the Fjerdan Ice Court. Back in their city, they are double-crossed, and on the run, desperate to get what is theirs and make a certain man regret the day he chose to cross Kaz Brekker.

This story is full of intense moments and suspense. There were so many moments where I found myself asking, “now how are they going to get out of this situation?” The way Bardugo wrapped everything up at the end and brought together the pieces of multiple cons was a thing of beauty. If you read our review of Six of Crows, you know that I was a little disappointed by the book. This ending saved it all! It was worth all 997 pages of the duology just for this finale. I would go back and read it all again just to read the last 150 pages of Crooked Kingdom one more time. I loved the group’s friendship and the way it developed over the course of the duology (I feel like there was more friendship and comradery in this book than in Six of Crows). And the appearance of a favorite character of mine from the Shadow and Bone Trilogy was quite possibly the best thing that ever could have happened!
