Matt and Hope adopt a baby girl and her teenage brother from China. Everything’s supposed to be perfect, but it’s not. Matt’s experiencing some of the challenges of being a father, and his past antiterrorism work comes back to put him and his entire family in danger.

I didn’t love the first part of this book because it felt like Matt wasn’t even trying to have a connection with his adopted son. The kids get adopted in the preface, but the first chapter of the book starts 2 years later. And Matt still isn’t trying. Yes, Peng is troubled, but because of everything in Matt’s past, he should be able to understand that. Anyways, don’t let that stop you from reading the book because they get there eventually. It was also nice to see the relationships build between the group of Scouts and the leaders while on their Scout camp. I can’t even tell you how much I love Ron. He needs his own book! The only other thing I didn’t love was that they were a little bit too accepting of the possibility of dying. It made a little bit more sense in the first book than it did in this one.

*While this technically isn’t part of a series, I would highly recommend reading Undercover Saint before reading this book.
