Jude is now in charge, with King Cardan having to do whatever she says. The Sea Queen decides that Cardan must marry her daughter in order for the “Sea” to stay loyal to the King. When he refuses, the Sea Queen retaliates.

If you are reading this you may be thinking to yourself, “she cracked, she decided to read the second book,” and alas, you would be correct. Now, did I enjoy the second book? For about two seconds when the Sea Queen was basically threatening war, but then what do you know? The book got boring again and started talking about some wedding drama with Jude’s sister. I will say that ole Holly Black does know how to write a cliff hanger, so let me just face the facts and admit to you all now that I will be indeed reading the next/last book of this series even though I didn’t really enjoy reading The Wicked King.

The only thing this series has going for it is the cliff hangers, otherwise I dare say this would be one of the flattest storylines I have ever read. Everything in this series so far could have been avoided if Jude just went back to the human world. Maybe that’s taking the easy way out… but I just can’t find the motivation for her to be staying here. In this book, I guess she is staying for her brother? But did anybody ask the brother if he wanted this? I can’t get behind the hype for this series. What is so good here that people can’t stop talking about it?
