The Jill Cooksey Mysteries #1
THE SWEET SCENT OF DEATH
LESLEY ST. JAMES

3.5 Stars
Jill Cooksey is a PR representative in the middle of the biggest product launch of her career. During the main event, her celebrity endorser, Juliet Scott, gets into a fight with the famous actress, Amber O’Neil. When Amber is found dead, Juliet is the prime suspect. Jill does all she can to clear Juliet’s name and save their product launch.
The Sweet Scent of Death was thoroughly entertaining and quite funny! I found myself staying up way too late reading this book, just to see what would happen next. Our main character Jill was so funny. I loved her little rants. For example, there was a whole section about a cockroach living in her apartment. She had given it a name and everything. So random, but yet entertaining.
I was thoroughly entertained when Jill and Juliet’s parents showed up. They marched in and proclaimed that they were gonna help solve this case. Clearly Jill needed help, as she is not a cop, and since Jill’s mom took a criminal justice class once, she must be an expert. Quality entertainment!
I loved the ending of the book. Everything came together beautifully and I appreciated that array of possible suspects. It made it more fun not being able to know whodunit the whole time.
Overall, I would say that this is a mystery/whodunit that doesn’t take itself too seriously, which is fine by me. We all need a lighthearted mystery every once in a while. This is the first book in The Jill Cooksey Mysteries series and I am excited to see where the other books go.
