THE LOVE THAT SPLIT THE WORLD
EMILY HENRY

Everything’s going according to Natalie’s plan until she has another visit from “Grandmother,” the ghost/dream/hallucination she was “cured” of three years ago. Now Natalie has to spend her last three months before heading off to college “saving him:” A person she doesn’t know from a fate she doesn’t understand.
I was looking forward to rereading this book because I remembered liking it when I first read it years ago. Yes, I thought it was weird, but the full circle moment at the end had me looking back at it fondly. I think my expectations were too high this time around, and this book just wasn’t as good as I thought it was going to be.
This book is weird and definitely confusing. It was almost trying too hard to come up with a scientific explanation for the weird things that were happening when I would have been happier with the explanation of… magic. Natalie was kind of annoying and full of herself. Obviously, I loved Beau, but their relationship (a love so great that it split the world) was based on the fact that they were the only people having magical things happen to them. I liked how Beau tried to help Natalie understand that just because she thought she didn’t fit in the world, or their town, didn’t mean it was true. He saw the beauty in a simple, small town life, and I think that’s a very refreshing point of view. I want him to build me a house with a porch. As for the end of the book, it was good, but not as good as I remembered. The whole book felt very long, and the short, exciting ending was kind of long too.

There are multiple male/female relationships throughout the book. There were a few descriptive makeout scenes with wondering hands/taking off shirts that would have gone further had they not been interrupted. There were also mentions of female/female and male/male relationships.
