THE CHRISTMAS MURDER GAME

Lily and her cousins have been summoned back to Endgame House to play one last Christmas game. The winner of the game inherits the house. Soon they are snowed in and are getting murdered one by one.

I was severely disappointed by this book! It had so much potential to be a really good story, but the execution here failed in my mind. This book was more similes than story telling. Also let’s talk about how it’s written like it’s trying to be in Victorian times, but then there’s a random reference to Toy Story or something else from the modern era.

I felt like the author was more interested in her lesbian agenda than explaining why our murderer was murdering. Of the 7 most talked about female characters in the book 5 of them are lesbians or bisexual and one of the remaining two is assumed to be sleeping with a woman during the book. Why does their sexuality matter? What does it bring to the story? Oh, nothing. But apparently it was important enough to be brought up multiple times for each character but we couldn’t be bothered to explain why our murderer thought murder was their only option. The explanation we got for the need to murder was that “they knew too much”. What!?! You’re telling me that the poor murdered folk had what, realized said murderer wanted the house? They all wanted the house. That’s why they were there!!! So stupid.

Anywho, I have one final thought on this book. There was a graphic of a clue board thing in the very beginning of the book. What was it for? The house is described as having multiple levels, various rooms. Were those in the clue board? No, no they were not. Moral of the story, I don’t think I understand the author's motivation here.

On the scale of Christmas spirit, I would give this book 3 out of 5 Christmas trees. The book goes through the 12 days of Christmas and they do have some Christmas activities mixed in with the murderous ones.
