Kinsley is excited for the opportunity to cover the Stars and Stripes Hockey Tournament for the publication she interns for. The problem? The other intern, the son of her boss. The man has no motivation and constantly makes her job harder. The other problem? The hockey player she spent one evening talking to two years ago and still hasn’t been able to forget. Of course, he’s playing in the tournament.

The Bombs Bursting in Air is another book in the Stars, Stripes, and Hockey Nights series. I liked the setup of the story and the history that Kinsley and Jayce had having known each other briefly before the tournament. Like the other books in the series, I enjoyed the camaraderie between the players and the tournament setting.

I had a hard time with Kinsley’s character. She was determined that her life was harder because she was a woman and she took every chance she had to mention that. It was too much. I agree, the nepotism argument was valid with her boss hiring his son as an intern when he wasn’t even close to qualified, but I didn’t see any evidence that this boss didn’t value women. When Kinsley brought up ‘the patriarchy’ in her rant to the hockey players about something they did, I couldn’t take it. I feel like she had a huge chip on her shoulder about the unfairness of being a woman, but nothing was happening that was making her life unfair!

Overall, Kinsley’s personality made this book a bit harder for me to read. I liked the other characters and the general storyline.
