Alex wakes up in a dark room handcuffed to her enemy. They can’t remember the last two days.

Yes. YES!!! This book is more than I hoped it would be and everything I wanted, but didn’t get, from The Blonde Identity (the first book in the series). And I didn’t even like Alex’s character before I started this book. Her moments in The Blonde Identity made me really dislike her. A lot. But now I love her. And King.

This is the perfect enemies-to-lovers spy situation. I loved that the story spanned 10 years and that we got to read from both past and present timelines. It added a lot of depth to the characters and their romance. It was very easy to believe that after bickering with each other at ‘spy school,’ their relationship started to develop over years of working together.

I liked the whole plot of the story—the romance and the mystery. I thought it was done very well. Of course, there are a few things that I wish were different, but nothing’s perfect. I also just loved the tone of the book. I felt like 75% of The Blonde identity was Zoe being objectified by everyone, including Sawyer. But I felt like King respected Alex. There were moments were Alex and King had to make out and “lose” some of their clothes for their cover, but it was undescriptive and written in a non-icky/non-spicy way. If that make sense. I don’t know, maybe it’s just me being hypocritical because I liked this story better.

I’m glad I decided to continue the series and give this one a chance. It was really, really good. Could I turn around and read it again right now? Yes. Yes, I could.

Also, can I just say, the Veronica Mars quote at the beginning of the book—perfect. It was an EPIC love story.
