After graduating from college and getting engaged, Kelsey heads back home for the summer. She’ll be helping her dad on the ranch, spending time with her best friend, and planning her wedding with her mom. She doesn’t have time for a prank war with her high school nemesis! Why couldn’t her dad have hired anyone else?

I had the best time reading That Fine Line. I loved the format of this story. It began with a brief look into the past, and skipped ahead to the summer after our main characters have graduated from college. Each chapter began with a journal entry, either from the past or present, and I loved that! It was a fun element for this story. Kelsey’s journal was really entertaining and it brought an extra dose of amusement to the book.

I really enjoyed Cindy Steel’s writing style. It’s fun. It’s witty. It’s easy to read. It made me laugh. I was sucked into the story from the very beginning. The elementary school vomit scene packed an extra punch for me after my daughter threw up in our truck earlier that day… but I promise you, if you haven’t been around puke in a while, you will understand the level of disgust it would bring in that situation. The author’s writing brings it to life, as well as the other parts of the story–the much more pleasant parts of the story. The Idaho ranch was the perfect setting. I loved the scenery, the tasks on the farm, the animals and the wildlife… Although the overall tone of this book was very lighthearted and fun, there were some more serious elements weaved in that felt realistic and added depth to the plot.

The characters in That Fine Line were an entertaining group. I loved the banter between all the characters, not just Kelsey and Cade. I loved the farm hands working with Kelsey and her dad. They were hilarious together, so I’m excited to read more about this group of people in the other books in this series. Although the ‘engaged girl realizing she’s making a mistake and breaks it off’ isn’t my favorite trope, I really enjoyed this book! I highly recommend.
