The story from the Caraval series continues with Scarlett and Tella as they celebrate the Great Holiday.

I was excited to dive into this novella after finishing the Caraval series. The illustrations were beautiful. The whole book was beautiful. The pages that didn’t have illustrations still had a cute design on them so I thought that made it really fun to read. The story has a magical holiday theme. Tella is searching for the perfect gift for the love of her life. The book took a strange turn and became something I really didn’t like. I can’t explain it without giving away the story, but I thought it was all sorts of wrong. In the end, I can see the argument that it wasn’t weird or creepy, but I don’t think I’ll ever read this again. As beautiful as the book is, the weird parts were illustrated too, so I don’t think I need that in my life. It was a nice thought, but Spectacular was a miss for me.
