SO PRETTY A PROBLEM

Mordecai Tremaine stumbles his way into another murder investigation. An artist “accidently” gets shot by his wife, but her story isn’t really adding up.

I liked this book a lot more than the previous book in the series (Murder for Christmas). This is exactly what I wanted, and was looking for, in that book. I felt like a motive for murder made more sense throughout the entire book, and I also felt like things got wrapped up very nicely. The grand scene of everybody getting together to expose the true murderer actually happened, and it was great. I didn’t get those things from Murder for Christmas.

It did still take a little bit of time and effort to keep all of the characters straight in the beginning, but I think the slight change of format helped. This book started off with Adrian Carthallow being murdered, and then we went back in time to when Mordecai first met him (and his friends). We followed that timeline until he got murdered, then we jumped back to present tense, after the murder. I really liked that. It read really well.

I also just really enjoyed revisiting the character of Mordecai Tremaine—he cracks me up—and the mystery was great. I thought I knew for sure who had done it, but no, I got tricked again. What more can you ask for?
