Ten years ago, seven children were kidnapped and taken into the woods by their school bus driver. Now they are teenagers and end up going on a school trip where they’ll be back in those same woods.

This book was one wild ride. For the majority of the book, I was wondering if we were ever going to get to know what happened ten years ago and how the kids ended up escaping their kidnapper. We did eventually get to learn how they all escaped, but it took quite a bit of the book to get there. As for the current time timeline, it was very fast paced and engaging. Around every turn something creepy was happening, and I was looking for clues everywhere as to who was behind it.

Not to toot my own horn, but I had a prime suspect in mind from the beginning. And may I say that I was half right? Pretty good if I may say so myself. But the accomplice…man, I never saw that one coming. I even gasped!

I’m going to get on my soapbox here for a moment and complain. There is a non-bionary character in the story, and this character goes by they/them. I found myself having to re-read multiple sections of the book because I read the words they/them and assumed multiple people. Sometimes, in this story, it was referring to multiple people, and other times it was referring to the one character. Maybe I’m just stupid and can’t follow it, but I just felt the need to let y’all know that, to me, it was confusing.

Overall, this book was a good thriller. It had me wondering at every turn what was going to happen next.
