In order to prevent his distant relatives from keeping their places as heirs to his fortune, Adam, the Duke of Kielder, is convinced to be married. As a moody scarred ‘beast,’ he requests a desperate plain bride. But when Persephone shows up, she’s more beauty than plain.

I’d heard great things about this book going into it, so I had high expectations, and it definitely lived up to them. Adam was the perfect grumpy scarred ‘beast.’ And Persephone was the perfect dependable not-to-sunshine-y ‘beauty.’  I also liked the comparisons of their story and Greek mythology’s Persephone and Hades. I’m no expert, so I don’t know how accurate the parallels were, but I thought it was a nice touch.

There was definitely a lot of miscommunication between Adam and Persephone that was slightly driving me crazy. They were both pining for each other for so long but unwilling to say anything, so a lot of the drama was kind of unnecessary. But what’s a good story without the drama? And I do love a slow burn. I also liked the other characters in the story, especially Harry. Every ‘beast’ deserves a good friend that will ignore their threats of bodily harm and joke with them. I highly recommend.
