SAINT ANYTHING

After Sydney’s older brother, Peyton, goes to jail for a drunk driving incident, Sydney struggles to find out where she fits in with her family and in life. Everything had always been all about Peyton. Now that he's gone, where does she fit? Sydney starts at a new school and makes new friends that change her perspective on everything.
This isn’t the first time that I have read Saint Anything and it won’t be the last. This story is a thing of beauty. It’s tragic, yet adorable, all at the same time.
Throughout the book we meet multiple characters who are going through hard times in life and are all handling it differently. The main character, Sydney, just wants a fresh start in life and is being bogged down by what her brother has done. Once she meets Layla, she finally starts to realize that everyone has their issues and it’s okay. I love the friendship that grows between Sydney and Layla, and of course the relationship between Mac and Sydney. I love his quiet but protective vibe and how he would do anything for his family and isn’t ashamed of any of it. He is basically the perfect man if you ask me.
Sydney’s parents need a wake up call. They couldn’t care less about her and are obsessed with her older brother Peyton. I feel like a lot of us can relate to her because we’ve felt that at different times in our lives. Or maybe it’s just me since I am a middle child… anywho, no child should feel as invisible in her own home as she did. I appreciated how her parents mostly came around in the end and started acknowledging her and her feelings.
I love me a Sarah Dessen book and this one is right up there with the best of them. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a book that isn’t all sunshine and rainbows.
