Katie has been hiding from her husband for a few months and has found her way to Southport, North Carolina. While there, she meets Alex, the local convenience store owner. Alex can tell that there is more to Katie than meets the eye. Will Katie learn to trust him?

A few weeks ago I watched the movie Safe Haven, and immediately thought to myself “how come I have never read this book?” I then proceeded to procure the book (from my mom) and read it, obviously. The book is way different from the movie, but that’s besides the point.

I loved this book! Even though I already knew the overarching storyline, I found myself needing to keep reading to see what was going to happen next! I was up way later than I should have been many nights in a row reading this book. I appreciated the fact that Alex had a background dealing with women who had been abused and could tell that domestic abuse was part of Katie's story before they ever started dating. I also appreciated the fact that she confided in him and decided to trust him. Those facts help their love story seem more legit. Even though, to me, they were proclaiming their love to each other a little early in their relationship.

I do have to admit that I did, in fact, cry while reading this. But, in my defense, it was 1 AM and Katie was reading the letter from Alex’s wife. It was just so beautiful. Usually when a book makes me cry it gets an automatic 5 stars, but I feel the lateness of the hour led to my tears, so therefore I am leaving it as a 4 star read. Which is still really good. I could definitely see myself re-reading this book someday. I’m still giving it our tearjerker stamp though… so perhaps I’m a hypocrite… Anywho, I would recommend this book to any adult who loves a good thriller/love story.
