Violet has sworn off dating jocks after being burned by the captain of her school's hockey team. Pretending to date their rival school’s captain, Reed Darling, might be the only way to get her ex to leave her alone. Too bad Reed is determined to show her that not all hockey players are jerks.
I happened upon this book on Instagram and was instantly interested. I know the world is quite hyped about hockey romances these days, so I was interested to check out one that is advertised as clean. Plus, who doesn’t love a “rivals to lovers” storyline. In all fairness though, Violet and Reed were never really rivals. Reed was the ex-boyfriends rival. But hey, it still works.
I thought this book was really cute. I quite enjoyed my time reading it and the storyline had me interested throughout the whole book. Some of the rumors that were spreading about Reed and his family were a little wild, but I found them to be thoroughly entertaining.
I do have to say though, as an avid hockey watcher, I was a little disappointed at the beginning of the book when the timeline wasn’t adding up. The book starts with Violet rushing to get to her boyfriend's (soon to be ex’s) game which she believed started at 3:00, she states she is 30 minutes late, making it 3:30, okay? Stick with me here. She gets to the game and realizes it’s not her boyfriend’s game, it's the rival school’s game (they play in the same arena). She then realizes that his game was at 1:00 not 3:00. Violet and her cousin talk to some people in the crowd and then the game is over. Now, I will acknowledge that high school hockey games don’t go as long as professional games but you are telling me a game happened at 1:00, ended (and everybody cleared out) and another game was able to start and end by probably 4:00 ish?? The math ain’t mathing here for me.
I was able to get over the timeline not adding up and enjoy the rest of the book. Although I did get a little second hand embarrassment about what Reed did to win Violet over, but perhaps that is just a me thing. Anywho, all that being said I whole heartedly plan on reading the next book in this series, Grumpy Darling.
