Morgan’s life changed forever when she became pregnant at seventeen years old. She married her high school boyfriend, Chris, and eventually dropped out of college because finances were tight with daycare and tuition. Clara, their daughter, doesn’t want to be anything like her mom. Morgan doesn’t want Clara to make the same mistakes she did. With their conflicting personalities, Chris is the glue that holds their family together. Everything changes when Chris is involved in a tragic accident and many questions arise.

I’m one of those people who immediately wants to read a book as soon as I see the movie trailer, and that’s exactly what happened here. I’ve never read anything by Colleen Hoover, so I thought this would be a good opportunity to check out her writing. Unfortunately, I won’t be seeking out any more of her books after reading this one. I enjoyed the story, and Hoover’s writing was really good, but there was too much language and spice for me.

This story had a lot of real life in it. You know I love a happy story full of sunshine and rainbows. Regretting You was not that… so I feel a little weird when I say that I enjoyed this story. It was tragic and full of grief and heartache, but the way Hoover told the story had me hooked from the very beginning. We read from Morgan (the mom) and Clara’s (the daughter) perspective as they struggle to cope with their new reality and it was really interesting to have both of their point of views. I loved the side characters and the little quirks to the story that were lighthearted and fun. For example, one of our side characters, Miller, is moving a city limit sign in a construction zone a few feet at a time to move it closer to his house (I think it’s a mile total) because the pizza delivery guy won’t deliver outside of the city limit and he wants pizza delivered to his house. Very random, yet very amusing. Overall, I enjoyed the story but if I had known more about the content beforehand, I wouldn’t have picked it up. Sorry Colleen Hoover, I don’t think your books are for me.
