Emma’s Grandma has asked her to come spend three weeks with her in her retirement community this summer. The last thing Emma expects is to be met with 3 other grandmas, their grandkids, and thrust into the “Donut Club.”

Where do I even begin? The whole concept of this book is brilliant! I was thoroughly entertained between the Grandmas, the teenagers, and all the wild banter. This book will definitely keep you smiling and entertained.

The main concept of the book is that each grandkid has some habit that they need to break, Emma’s habit is being a rule follower. Her Grandma ironically makes the rule that Emma must break a rule everyday. The emotional/moral turmoil that she goes through each day breaking the silliest of rules was quite relatable to me. I hate it when people are mad at me or I get in trouble for things, so I definitely felt her pain.

At one point in the book, one of the grandma’s says she has cupcakes for everyone and all the other grandmas start to harass her and say they better not be homemade. The cupcake grandma says, “You mix up a teaspoon and tablespoon one time and nobody forgets.” I can attest that this is the truest statement ever said. When I was a kid I may or may not have put a little too much salt into some cookies and I still hear about it to this day! Anywho, not really related to the book, but I felt seen with that statement.

If you are looking for a cute summer read I would definitely recommend Rebel With a Donut. This is book one in a three part series. I will for sure be checking out the other two!
