TRACI HUNTER ABRAMSON
Big Sister

The last thing Tia Parker expected was to meet Evan Spence at her best friend’s wedding. He is perfect, except for the fact he lives half-way across the globe. Now enter Colby Farren, the new and handsome cop in town that clearly has a thing for Tia.
It’s no secret that my sister is obsessed with anything Traci Hunter Abramson writes. We were talking about picking a good book club book for the three of us to read and it was no surprise when she suggested one by Abramson. She hopped out of her seat and started telling us/acting out the main plot of the story in a similar way to Olaf in the short series ‘Olaf Presents’ on Disney Plus. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, look it up. They’re pretty funny. Anyway, she referred to this book as the ‘Holy Grail,’ so my other sister and I figured we’d better just go ahead and agree to read this book. My feelings after I read Proximity are that the book was alright… I knew what was going to happen due to my sister’s presentation so I was a little annoyed when what I thought was the main plot of the story didn’t happen until 3/4ths of the way through the book. I felt like I was waiting for the good part the entire time. Up until that point, I was just reading about a couple who met at a friend’s wedding, hit it off, and immediately began a long-distance relationship. For me, it felt like an awful lot of build up for the twist the story took. Maybe I would have liked it more if I’d gone into it blindly? But as I think about the storyline and the events that take place, I think that even if I read this story knowing nothing about it, I’d still be here complaining about how the first 3/4th of the book being the buildup for the twist was too much. Sorry Sister, this book was not the Holy Grail for me. I’ve liked many of Abramson’s other stories better. I look forward to debating about it at our next book club meeting ;)

I don’t know what my sister was talking about. This book was great. I loved the mystery that was kind of obvious, but had the whole “when is it gonna happen?” thing going on. And, I enjoyed the relationship building before the twist at the end of the book. It was a third act plot twist instead of a third act break up, and I was all for it. That being said, I did have a little more time than my sister did in between the impromptu, full body presentation of the plot and when I actually read the book. So maybe I didn’t remember as many details as her.

Holy crap folks, can I just say this book is a literary masterpiece? Because it is! Perhaps I shouldn’t have told my dear sisters the overall plot of this book before they read it. But in my defense, I needed to convince them of its greatness. I feel that may have swayed their view of the book, because I was blindsided the first time I read this book. No spoilers here but everything a certain character was doing, I wrote off as normal behavior! Perhaps this means that one day I am gonna find myself in a bad situation because I had no red flags going up throughout the book. Well… until it was obvious. Which for me was during the third act plot twist.
I dare say I am going to double down on this book being the holy grail! I have probably read it over 10 times and this book hasn’t even been out for 10 years. That’s a good book. At first glance, you wouldn’t expect it to be a mystery/suspense novel as my oldest sister has pointed out. It is mostly a romance story with a crazy twist! But I didn’t mind it.
Since I don’t have the space to list out everything that I love about this book, I will just name a few here. I loved the whole running joke of both Tia and Evan being late for everything, I feel like we all know people who are late to everything no matter what. I loved that Evan was devastated that his phone got ruined making him lose Tia’s phone number and did everything he possibly could to get back into contact with her, despite only knowing her for like 72 hours. I loved that Tia was an independent woman and she wasn’t just waiting for her prince charming to take care of her. I also love that this book brings in characters from some of Traci Hunter Abramson’s other books, it just makes my heart happy!
One final note here, when each of us read a book we all write up a little description and then the best one gets used on the blog. In my oldest sister’s review, she called Evan Ethan! What the crap! I am starting to think she didn’t even read the book. So, moral of the story, ignore her three stars, take my five stars to heart. Do yourself a favor and go get this book and read it immediately!
