After Ellie divorces her abusive husband, she reconnects with an old friend. Hunter doesn’t seem to mind her past or the fact that she’s pregnant. He just wants to protect her and her baby.

I think you need to be in the right mood to read Promise You the Moon. The overall plot was cute, but I had a hard time with a few things. Ellie was a very pregnant, exhausted, and emotional woman for a good portion of the story. I’ve been there. I know what it’s like. But I thought Ellie’s irrational behavior was a little over the top. She seemed useless. Like all she could do was cry and make a mess. Yes, us pregnant women sometimes have our moments, but we are still functioning humans. Ellie didn’t seem to function well.

We covered a good chunk of time in the 300 pages of this story. I would say it was about 4 months. No complaints about that. Ellie’s pregnancy took us through Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s. I will argue that we never spent enough time in any particular scene. We moved from scene to scene so quickly that I don’t feel like we saw anything through. I don’t feel like I got to know either Ellie or Hunter very well because we moved from one thing to the next so quickly and it all felt fairly superficial. I would also argue that our villain and his story lacked development for the same reasons.

Like I said, the overall story was cute. The plot line was a little flat. But I enjoyed the flashbacks into Ellie and Hunter’s past. I thought they were well timed and added to the dynamic of their present-day relationship. Hunter’s dedication to Ellie was adorable.
