I really enjoyed reading On the Fence. I loved the theme of Charlie being ‘one of the boys.’ The friendship she had with her brothers and the neighbor boy, Braden, were really sweet. I feel like we don’t see super strong sibling relationships in books often, so I loved that. The teasing/bickering between them was one of my favorite parts of this story. We also had a few characters from The Distance Between Us show up, and that was really fun. Their appearance didn’t really answer any of my lingering questions from that book, but it was still entertaining.

The friends to lovers theme was perfect for this story. I loved reading the moments where Charlie and Braden met at their fence to talk late at night. You’ve got to love the boy-next-door angle. I appreciated how their feelings were based on their long-time friendship. I loved how Charlie grew as a person through this story. I love it when the characters are appreciated for who they are, and Charlie’s journey over the summer led to a conclusion along those lines. There are some deeper themes to the plot, but for the most part this book was lighthearted.

On the Fence is a great summer read! I highly recommend it if you enjoy cute YA romances.
