I stumbled across the audiobook for My Next Breath while I was on Spotify and I thought I would enjoy listening to it. Audiobooks aren’t really my thing, but Jeremy Renner narrates this one himself so I figured I could enjoy it. His story is incredible. It’s one of those horrifying, yet fascinating stories you can’t help but be sucked into. I was amazed at how well he could remember being crushed by the snow cat. He talks about it with such detail and the audiobook included the 911 call his neighbors made while they waited for help to arrive. I thought that really added to the effect of him describing what had happened. It is pretty gruesome so if you’re sensitive about that kind of thing I would be wary. One of the parts I remember most about the book was when he was describing the thoughts going through his head as he laid on the ice waiting for the paramedics to arrive. He was in a bit of denial about how bad his injuries were and he remembers thinking “I think I’m going to need an Epsom salt bath and get some ice on this eyeball” because he thought he’d be able to get up and walk back up to his house. That blew my mind! Jeremy’s story really was amazing. I really enjoyed listening to the audiobook. I would highly recommend listening to it, just know that he uses a ton of language. At first, I thought that if anyone should be using the F Word in a book it should be Jeremy Renner when he describes being crushed by a 14,000-pound machine… but I think it was a regular word in his vocabulary before he was crushed. So it’s used frequently.
