MERRITT AND HER CHILDHOOD CRUSH

After everything in her life goes down the drain, Merritt heads to Oakley Island to take over her grandmother's house renovation project. Her sister, Eloise has been heading up the project, but she had a chance to go to grad school. As much as Merritt doesn't want to be there, it's much better than moving back home with her mom and stepfather. The question is, how come nobody told her the contractor working on the renovation is none other than her childhood crush, Hunter?

I loved this book!!! Eloise's story was cute, but I enjoyed Merritt and Hunter's story way more. There's something about a childhood friendship, second chance romance. I loved both Merritt and Hunter as characters and I loved the flashbacks to their past. I thought they quickly moved past their awkward feelings after all the years apart and fell into their old ways, all while getting to know each other as adults. There was a smile on my face more often than not while reading about their 'pranks' and banter with one another. This book had a little bit of real life and hardship, so seeing the characters navigate that and find their happy ending made my heart happy. There were some fun side characters and the references to Hallmark movies made me laugh. I found the rescue animals to be quite endearing, despite my feelings towards dogs. Banjo the Raccoon was absolutely adorable too, but I have to admit that I had a hard time believing such a creature could exist... Believe it or not, my sisters and I had a run-in with what we believe was a raccoon recently, and it left us frozen in terror. We will probably never be the same... Just kidding:) I think we scared him as much as he scared us. Don't think it was Banjo...  Anyway, this book sucked me in from the very beginning. I loved it! I highly recommend you check it out! Can't wait to read Sadie's story next.
