The Chicago Falcons #1
JUST ONE OF THE BOYS
LEAH ROOPER, KATE ROOPER

4.5 Stars
Alice’s dream is to play for the Chicago Falcons junior hockey team. She thinks her life is over when her twin brother, Xander, gets picked for the team instead of her, just because he’s a boy. When Xander has an accident and can’t play on the team anymore, there’s only one thing left for her to do: pretend to be Xander and play for the Falcons. Oh, and try not to fall for any of her teammates.
This book is so funny. I love it when girls pretend to be guys in books/movies for whatever reason—to play sports, be in the band, join the army, etc. And this was no different. It reminded me of the movie She’s the Man (if you haven’t seen it, would highly recommend), and I loved it.
I was slightly annoyed by Alice’s family dynamics. She was pretty selfish at times, but her mom and brother had their moments too. I felt like she was painted in a bad light more than they were, and I don’t really think that’s fair. As for Alice and Hayden’s relationship, I loved it. It was nice to see them become such good friends and teammates on and off the ice. Hayden was a little bit of a hot head at the beginning of the book, but Alice helped him chill out a little bit. And, in turn, he taught her that she was worth fighting for (aw, how sweet). Some of the things they did together, as two male friends, seemed a little unrealistic. I’m not a guy, so I really wouldn’t know, but I don’t think they take their friends out to their favorite stargazing spots… Anyways, it was great.
