Callie has been an assistant at Dawson’s office for the last five years. He’s a grumpy guy. He works. He runs. He plays basketball with his friends. He doesn’t date. Despite his grumpiness, Callie enjoys her routine in her job and she tries not to let Dawson get to her. She’s good at what she does. When Dawson’s mother comes to town, Dawson and Callie agree to fake date to get her off his back.

You know I’m a sucker for a cute romance so, naturally, I enjoyed reading Just His Secretary. I was expecting this story to be more of an enemies-to-lovers trope based on the summary of the book, but Callie and Dawson seemed pretty friendly with each other right from the beginning. I loved Callie’s confidence in herself and I also loved how she wasn’t afraid to tell Dawson he was being a jerk when he was. Her thing with serial killers cracked me up. I liked Nice Dawson too. We read from both of their perspectives throughout the book, which I liked. But I have to admit that I think I was more confused about the two’s relationship than they were… which is saying something since I was reading both of their point of views. I still enjoyed reading it. This is #1 in a series and towards the end of this book we had one chapter from the perspective of Tara, who is Callie’s best friend and who the next book is about. I understand what the author was doing with that, but I thought it was odd. It wasn’t necessary to pique my interest in continuing the series. We know Tara as Callie’s friend, so I just thought that was a strange choice when I would have rather read that part of the book in Callie’s perspective. I would consider reading the other books in this series.
