Nellie has her life all planned out, Jensen Nichols is not exactly part of that plan. When tragedy hits, Nellie re-evaluates her life and realizes what is important and what isn’t.

This book gave me feelings. I legit shed a few tears while reading this. I will say that I did feel slightly bamboozled by this book when I first started it. I was recommended this book by the nice lady at the local book store–she described it as a cute YA romance so I was definitely in. But guess what folks? She neglected to mention the tragedy that this book is! Don’t get me wrong, I still thoroughly enjoyed it, I just was not expecting to cry. I felt so bad for Nellie and for Jensen and their life situations. It is refreshing to read a book where not everything is hunky dory and people have to deal with real life issues. Now, did this book have an alarming amount of real life issues going on in it? Yes, but not so much that it isn’t believable. From what I understand, this is Gina Lynn Larsen’s first book. I would definitely be interested in reading another book by her, I’ll just have my tissues ready.

I was with my sister at the book store when this book was recommended to us as a sweet teen read—I too feel lied to. Because my sister read it first, I knew some of the tragedies that were coming, so I wasn’t surprised. But I don’t know if that made it worse. For the first 30% of the book, I had a pit in the bottom of my stomach, and I didn’t much care for the other 70% either. I love a realistic romance book with bad things happening, but I can’t get behind this. It kind of made me uncomfortable? I don’t know if that’s because I was waiting for the shoe(s) to drop or if everything was just feeling too heavy. Or… maybe I just read this book at the wrong time. As for the rest of the book (everything other than the tragedies), it was just confusing. I felt like I was waiting for some things to be addressed and it never happened. Almost like there were inside jokes I wasn’t a part of. I felt like there was way too much going on and no conclusion. And what even was the epilogue? This was meaner than I intended it to be, but I’m really confused…
