FIELD NOTES ON LOVE

When Hugo gets dumped by his girlfriend of four years right before they’re supposed to take a train trip across America, there’s only one thing to do… find another Margaret Campbell who’s willing to take her place to get him on the train. The tickets are in her name—nontransferable—and he’s going on this trip, no matter what.
This book started out so good. I didn’t want to put it down. The whole concept was so fascinating to me—from taking a train across the country and traveling with a stranger, to Mae being interested in film and Hugo being a sextuplet. It was fast paced and interesting. But halfway through, it started to fizzle out a little bit. I don’t know if I got over the novelty of them being on the train or if I just wasn’t vibing with all of their soul searching and trying to find themselves. Me a few years ago would have loved this, but I think I might be over the whole ‘post high school graduation finding yourself’ thing, and that’s okay. Overall, this was a good book, it just wasn’t my favorite.
