Guardian #1

FAILSAFE

TRACI HUNTER ABRAMSON
Little Sister
4/5 star rating

Charlotte’s dad was just murdered. Now she’s on the run because the killer is after her and the information she knows about the top secret government program called Guardian. She runs into Jake while passing through his family farm and decides it might be the perfect place to hide out for a while.

Although this is not my favorite book in the Guardian series, I thoroughly enjoyed my time reading it. I was surprised by how quickly the action started with Charlotte’s dad immediately being murdered and her needing to run away. I loved the part with her trying to lose the people following her and how she used multiple modes of transportation: car, horse, train, taxi, and horse again. I also loved the connection with her showing up on Jake’s land wearing reenactment clothes and how he thought it seemed like she fell out of a book he was writing. The drama with Jake’s sister was great and the connection that Charlotte developed with Jake’s grandma was really sweet. As for the suspense situation, what more could you ask for?

Almost from the very first page of this book, we were thrown into the action of Charlotte’s story. I was immediately hooked by the fast start. The whole story was full of high stakes and suspense. I really enjoyed reading from both Charlotte and Jake’s perspectives. Their characters were relatable (despite their crazy situation) and I loved how they came together. We also read from the point of view of the ‘bad guys,’ so that incorporated a sense of danger to the entire storyline. I agree with my sister, I loved how smart Charlotte was while on the run. It was fascinating to read how she navigated that situation and how she stayed hidden.

I really liked the concept of the database Charlotte was protecting. All the hidden identities leave several options for more stories. Since this is Guardian #1, I can only assume there is more of this story to read. There is one thing from Failsafe I’m very curious to find out about… if it was just a coincidence or if it will turn out to be a bigger part of the story. I highly recommend Failsafe! I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!
