Clary lives a pretty normal life. That is, until she sees three teenagers kill a boy in a dance club. She can’t understand how he disappears or how there isn’t any blood left behind. Almost immediately she is swept up into the world of the Shadowhunters.

I enjoyed branching out from my usual genre to read City of Bones. This is a young adult, fantasy novel about a whole other world living among the world we know. There are demons, vampires, werewolves, and other creatures living amidst the humans–they just can’t see them, or they see them differently through a glamor. The Shadowhunters are the warriors trained to kill the demons. The whole concept was interesting and entertaining. I enjoyed learning about it along with Clary as she discovered the life that her mother hid from her. I would say that this book is geared more towards a younger audience, which is perfect, considering it is a young adult book. There were some moments that felt like fluff and that made it feel like its purpose was to entertain kids. I still enjoyed the book and I plan to read the next one in the series. The ending had me on the edge of my seat. I may be in a bit of denial about something that happened at the end of the story. It can’t be true. Can it? If it is, why?!? I must know.
