Abby Fawn could not be more excited when she finds out that her favorite author is coming to town for an extended stay. She has rented a camper at the Happy Trails Campground and plans to work on her latest project. Things don’t look very good when Abby is found standing over the dead authors’ body holding a knife.

I will admit that I have mixed feelings about this book. On one hand, it reminded me of watching an episode of Psych. And I loved that. There’s a crime to be solved, but there are fun characters who bring some lighthearted feelings to the story. I really liked that part of Christmas, Criminals, and Campers. And considering this book came from a series that currently has 44 books in it, I’m thinking it’s like each book is an episode. Kind of fun, right? And according to the author’s website, it’s in development with Hallmark! Super exciting!

My less positive feelings about this book could stem from the fact that this is book #4 in the series and I haven’t read the previous 3… I felt like maybe there was a little bit of information that I was missing out on. And that’s my own fault for jumping into book 4 because I was in the mood for something festive. There were quite a few characters in this story and I had a hard time keeping them straight. I think that wouldn’t have been as bad if I had started at the beginning of the story. That being said, I will argue that more of my confusion had to do with the writing in the book. There were some typos and mistakes in the story. For example, at one point there is a scene that takes place in the library and a few sentences later it says they left the bookstore. And there were sentences that just didn’t make sense. I found myself pausing often and rereading sentences because I was confused. It seemed like there should have been a little more proofreading here. And that’s what bugged me the most. I’m not saying I’d never read another one of these books. If I were in the mood, I could see myself picking another one up. I just wish this was a little more polished.

As far as the Christmas vibes go, I would give this book 3 Christmas Trees out of 5. There were a few snippets of Christmas like a Christmas sweater or a party, but mostly there was just a lot of snow.
