The Firemen of Waterford TN #2

BOOK AND LADDER

Daisy loves her life in Waterford. She runs the small bookshop she inherited from her grandparents. She has the best of friends and a great community surrounding her. She also has a nemesis… Patrick O’Connell. He’s been a thorn in her side for years. And now his family wants to put up a big box store right next to her cozy book shop.

This book was pretty cute. I have to admit that the whole ‘fireman crew series’ thing is kind of fun and I’m looking forward to the next book. This crew is like a team of superheroes to Waterford. I enjoyed our main characters, Daisy and Patrick. Their enemy status and the way they interacted with each other was pretty amusing, but at times felt a little harsh. When I say it’s an enemies to lovers story, I mean it. Seriously hard feelings. I loved that they both loved books! I couldn’t help but feel like I was part of their story because I feel the same about books. At one point, Patrick is talking about this cabin he likes to go to when he has time off where he can just read as much as he wants and then go for a walk or a hike when he feels like he needs to get outside. It was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard! If a man was emailing me such things, I’d fall in love too. The anonymous email writing was adorable and I really enjoyed the contrast between Daisy and Patrick in real life vs in email. Saying this book has You’ve Got Mail vibes is an understatement. It was a little too ‘on the nose’ for me. Big box store coming in to crush the little book store… enemies… online anonymous relationship… there were too many similar plot points. I loved the book appreciation so I can’t be that upset, but I also feel like maybe we didn’t have to follow the exact movie script here. Regardless, I enjoyed my time reading Book and Ladder and I’d probably read it again.
