BETTER THAN REVENGE

When Finley’s so-called boyfriend steals her dream job hosting the school's podcast, she decides to get even and take away his dream–being the starting kicker for the high school football team. What better way to do it than team up with his nemesis, the current starting kicker, Theo.

I love a cute high school romance story and, let me tell you, this one did not disappoint. I loved the revenge aspect of this love story. Along with reading about Finley and Theo falling in love, we also get to read about Finley’s grandma’s first love. It was really cute to read and I loved how Finley’s love story almost paralleled her grandma’s.

This book was really good. It was sweet and fast paced and everything you would expect from Kasie West. It’s light and funny, but also deals with some ethical issues, so it’s not too sweet that it’ll rot your teeth. From the very beginning of the book, I knew Jenson was going to be a loser, and he was. But I wasn’t prepared for how selfish and thoughtless he continued to be throughout the book. I loved Finley’s group of friends and how they totally had her back no matter what. Even when she started spending time with Theo. And the side story with Finley’s grandma, it warmed my heart.

I always enjoy a cute teenybopper romance. I realize that might not be the right word… but in my head that’s how I refer to YA romance that takes place during high school. Kasie West is a go-to when it comes to these kinds of books. I enjoyed the story of our main character, Finley, and how it connected with her grandmother’s past. I thought that added a nice touch to the plot. She was a little self-centered but I think she had to be for this story. Plus, what teenager isn’t a little self-centered? I was hoping there would be a little deeper reason for the rivalry between the two boys (Jensen and Theo), but it seemed to be just general dislike of each other. That being said, this isn’t a new favorite by any means, but I had a good time reading the book. I’d recommend checking it out.
