As a firefighter, Dale is assigned to spend Halloween night in the town’s ‘haunted house’ in order to prevent any kids from causing trouble. The last thing he expected was to become wrapped up in the house’s haunted happenings.

There’s nothing like being trapped in a haunted house to help you realize what’s important in life. This was a fun Halloween themed story with an uplifting feel. I enjoy a seasonal read during the holidays, so finding a clean Halloween book was a win for me. This story has a lot of potential. I think I would have liked it better if it was longer. We didn’t have enough time to get to know the characters. There was significant past trauma that one particular character was needing to work through and it felt very rushed. I also think I would have enjoyed the mystery of their situation if it had been explored more. It felt chaotic and nonsensical, which may be expected in a story involving ghosts and haunted houses, but I would have enjoyed something that made a little more sense or felt a little more resolved in the end. It seems like the fact that everything happened so fast was what made it feel so bizarre and random. That was my main issue. I would have enjoyed more development of the plot as a whole. I haven’t read anything else by Misha Crews, but I’m not ruling it out. The Halloween vibes were pretty good!
