I have to admit that I picked this book up solely based on its cover/title. I didn’t know anything about it, I just thought it looked adorable! I didn’t realize it was a memoir… Sorry Tess and Corby, I didn’t know that this book was about your lives. I was too distracted by the cute cover and witty title… But I’m so glad I started reading!

From the first page of A Wheelie Awkward Romance (you know, after I realized what I was reading), I couldn’t put it down. The author’s “writing voice” was so entertaining. I honestly had a lot of fun reading this book. I smiled and laughed several times throughout. I loved Tess and Corby’s correspondence to each other. Their emails and texts were very amusing. The two really were made for one another. I loved the ‘wheelnote’ footnotes in the chapters. How fun to have Corby come in and add his comments to the story. I feel like we could understand even more of his sense of humor that way.

Along with being entertained, I feel like I learned a lot while reading this book. My experience with individuals in wheelchairs is extremely limited, so I enjoyed the insight into what their everyday life might look like. I really liked the structure of the book. The informational chapters were well placed and everything flowed very well. Honestly, the writing style was probably my favorite thing about this book. It really was so much fun to read. I know I keep saying that, but it’s true. I also really loved the photos at the end of the book.

I loved the way the book was wrapped up in the last chapter. The points the author made were thought provoking. I appreciated how honest the writing was throughout the book. Tess and Corby’s story was endearing, enlightening, and emotional. I loved that they were willing to share their story in such a way. I highly recommend A Wheelie Awkward Romance!
