Ember is determined to make a name for herself as a social media influencer. When she gets the idea to go camping in Yellowstone, she jumps on it with little planning. After a storm destroys her discount tent and her car, she finds herself in the company of Ridge, a park ranger who is her complete opposite.

A Ranger, A Wolf, and A Really Bad Tent had so much potential. I love the overall storyline. The idea of an influencer getting stranded in Yellowstone, with the park ranger coming to her aid is a story I would definitely want to read. In this case, I had a hard time enjoying the book because I couldn’t stand the main female lead, Ember. She drove me crazy the entire time. She was selfish and immature. She had no respect for anyone else. I can’t tell you how many times she “stomped her foot” at Ridge. She’s 24 years old and she’s stomping her foot in a tantrum. Really? And he was only helping her! Ridge was a lot more likable as a character. He seemed to be much more level headed. But I still don’t understand his attraction to Ember. I don’t see a kind, reflective, nature loving guy being interested in a self-absorbed, phone addicted, social media influencer. He didn’t even own a cell phone!!! Their potential relationship didn’t seem realistic to me at all. My dislike of Ember and the fact that I thought they were all sorts of wrong for each other really got in the way of me enjoying the story.

The religious aspect of the book was also a little much for me. And that’s an odd thing for me to say, because I am a religious person. I have a lot of the same beliefs that Ridge did. I’m all for living a Christ centered life and having a relationship with God. Ridge demonstrated a strong relationship, but I felt like he needed God’s input on every little thing, like what to eat for dinner… I read Christian Fiction often, but I’ve never read anything like this.

Despite my issues with Ember and Ridge, I loved the ending of the book. I thought it was very well done. I loved the journey the characters took to get to that particular ending. The last 20 pages showed a version of Ember that I could have liked. I realize the author had to write her as a selfish person for her to have the transformation that she did. But the fact that her change barely even started to happen until the last few pages of the book made her character hard to like. Maybe if she started to change at the halfway point I would have liked it better.
