A HEART SO FIERCE AND BROKEN

Rhen, Harper, and Grey saved Emberfall from the armies of Syhl Shallow and finally broke the curse. But now Grey is missing and holding the one piece of information everybody in the kingdom wants to know: the identity of the true heir. Grey has to decide what to do with this information and if saving the kingdom is worth working with the enemy.

A Heart So Fierce and Broken. Yeah… mine. My heart is crushed and broken and will never be the same again. Everything I loved about the first book just got thrown out the window. This book mainly focuses on Grey’s perspective as well as Lia Mara, one of Syhl Shallow’s Queen’s daughters—not a princess, as we are told multiple times. I missed Rhen and Harper, I very much disliked Grey (book 2 version of him), and I thought Lia Mara was immature and didn’t deserve any say in Grey and Rhen’s relationship.

I loved Tycho. I thought his innocence and loyalty were great. I liked how we got more of Jake and Noah and them becoming more comfortable in this world. I hated how they were still trying to undermine every decision Harper was making, but I thought the space/separation did them some good. I also came to appreciate Iisak. I didn’t like how he always seemed to egg Grey on, but the friendship he developed with him and the other characters was nice.

I really didn’t like this book that much. But what does it say about it that I’m so fired up and ready to argue about it? Also, there were some moments that were suspiciously similar to a dystopian hike through the woods… can’t say I hated that part.
