99 years of NHL history told by Wayne Gretzky.

I thought I knew some things about hockey when I picked up this book, but I was quickly put in my place. I learned a lot, and I thoroughly enjoyed my time reading this.

When I first started, it took me a minute to figure out the structure of the book. The stories are not told chronologically. Each chapter has a loose topic, and then anything related to that topic is mentioned. It’s like you’re having a chat with Wayne Gretzky, and getting an inside look at his thought process. After the first few chapters, I was able to follow it pretty well.

I loved learning more about the history of hockey—the first great players, who/what all of the awards are named after, how each team started, rules that have changed the game, the motivation/passion it takes to be great, and so much more. I especially enjoyed comparing his thoughts on the game/teams throughout the past to what’s happening in the NHL today. It was fascinating.

If you’re interested in hockey at all, I would give this one a try.
