Jake Epping gets not-so-willingly involved (through a dying man’s last wish) in a plot to travel back in time to save JFK from being assassinated.

This book was crazy. And long. And crazy! I knew a fair amount about the story going into it, but I was still surprised by a lot that happened. This was definitely an interesting take on time travel. I loved reading about Jake figuring out the rules and other ‘generally accepted facts’ of the rabbit hole and the past pushing back against change.

As somebody who didn’t know much about JFK and his assassination, I learned a lot. Obviously, that event is a big part of the book, so it’s discussed a lot. I didn’t mind all of the facts, but there were moments of discussing politics and stances on war and Cuba that I just didn’t care for. That being said, it was a very small portion of a very long book.

I couldn’t help but like Jake. His tone and the way he told his story was so believable… and relatable. He was just a man. He wasn’t a superhero, and he wasn’t perfect. He was trying to do a good thing, but he made a lot of mistakes. His moments of doubt and uncertainty were very well portrayed. And I loved how, even as he was ‘working’ for the greater good, he had times of selfishness (in a good way).

The ending was… wow. I mean, it was very expected from a time travel story—maybe it’s not a good idea to change the past—but I loved how everything worked out and came full circle. I was a little bit annoyed in the middle of the book about all of the little things that kept repeating or echoing or harmonizing, whatever you want to call it. But by the end, it just made sense.

Thoroughly entertaining. Thoroughly thought provoking. Would recommend. But be sure to check out the content ratings.
