FAVORITE GENRES

THE GIRLZZZ

Favorite Genres

The three of us love recommending books to each other. Although we read a lot of the same books and similar genres, we each have our own opinion, and we often don’t agree with each other when it comes to how well we liked a book. Here’s a bit of insight as to what our favorite genres are and what we love in a book.

"Romance"

My go-to genre is romance. I can read sweet romance all day, any day. I will never get tired of it. Some of my favorite tropes are: childhood friends to lovers, fake dating, secret identity, and forbidden love. Not necessarily all together… I love Christmas romances. I read them all year long.

I love a good Fantasy novel as well. I love stories with royalty, assassins, warriors, magic, witches/wizards, dragons, and adventure. Not necessarily all together here either…

When I’m in the mood, I enjoy a thriller/mystery. I love a book with a good plot twist! My sisters give me a lot of good recommendations.

I’m willing to try pretty much any genre as long as the book summary sounds interesting. I’ll admit that nonfiction is probably my least favorite. I have to be very interested to pick one up. But when I am interested, I’m really excited to read them. One of my goals this year is to read a few more classic books. They are a little more difficult for me to get into, but I find that once I’m reading I really do enjoy them.

"Mystery/Thriller"

My hands down favorite type of book is a thriller/mystery. I love a book where you never know what is going to happen next. Every now and then I enjoy a book where I can predict the ending from the start–it makes me feel smart–but nothing is more satisfying than being completely blindsided by a book!

Teeny-bopper romances will always have a special space in my heart. They are cute, innocent, and really good books. Well, some of them are. I think more adults should give teeny bopper romances a chance. They can be really good! I will admit there are some cringy ones out there, but there are some gems as well. You may be wondering what I am referring to when I say teeny bopper romances…. To me, a teeny bopper romance is a YA romance book, but we are talking about an actual YA book. No language, no spice. We are not here to read pornos people. Books that were actually written for teenagers to read, like 14 year olds.

"Anything?"

Usually, I like reading books where there’s at least a touch of romance. I love a romance subplot in a mystery/thriller, fantasy, or science fiction story. I also enjoy reading romance novels themselves, but I haven’t been reading them as much as I used to. I think I go through phases of what I’m interested in, and that’s where I’m at right now.

I have to admit that I probably gravitate more towards mystery/thriller than science fiction or fantasy. I love a good plot twist. I love trying to figure out who the bad guy is. I love spies, witness protection, military, CIA, FBI… all of it. Any of it. I don’t discriminate.

I’m a little bit more hesitant when it comes to magic and in-depth world building. A lot of it is probably in my head, but I worry about things getting confusing. I don’t like being confused.

I also enjoy a good classic or historical fiction. I probably read nonfiction the least.

Moral of the story is, I’ll pretty much read anything. And I am ALWAYS down for an anonymous letter writing situation or a dystopian hike through the woods.
